Advent in Church History

In the history of the Church the month of December is the time of “Advent.” The word Advent comes from a Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival.” This refers to the coming of God’s Son to earth taking upon Himself a human form in what Christians call the incarnation. In a manger, over 2,000 years ago, God’s Son became a man. Jesus Christ was born as a baby – fully God and fully man.

Advent Today

Throughout Church history Christians slow down during Advent and reflect upon the significance of Christ’s birth. Traditional Church services light a candle each Sunday, representing a Biblical theme that is fulfilled and given expression in the life of Christ. Those themes are: HOPE, LOVE, JOY & PEACE. These words get tossed around in our culture in sentimental ways that drain them of their life changing power.

This Christmas season, we invite you to join us as we rediscover what these words really mean, and as we learn how they are fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The true hope, love, joy and peace every person needs is deep and wide, and it is available to anyone who turns to Christ in faith.
